Step 1: Obtain Proxy Server Details

Before you begin, you’ll need the following information:

  • IP address or hostname of the SOCKS proxy server
  • Port number for the SOCKS proxy server
  • Authentication credentials (if required)

Step 2: Configure SOCKS Proxy in Google Chrome:

  1. Open Google Chrome.
  2. Click on the three-dot menu icon in the top-right corner.
  3. Select “Settings.”
  4. Scroll down and click on “Advanced.”
  5. Under the “System” section, click on “Open proxy settings.”
  6. In the “Internet Properties” window, go to the “Connections” tab.
  7. Click on the “LAN settings” button.
  8. Check the box that says “Use a proxy server for your LAN.”
  9. Enter the SOCKS proxy server IP address and port in the “Address” and “Port” fields.
  10. If the proxy requires authentication, click on the “Advanced” button and enter your credentials.
  11. Click “OK” to save the settings.

Step 3: Configure SOCKS Proxy in Mozilla Firefox:

  1. Open Mozilla Firefox.
  2. Click on the three-bar menu icon in the top-right corner.
  3. Select “Options.”
  4. In the left sidebar, click on “General.”
  5. Scroll down to the “Network Settings” section.
  6. Click on the “Settings” button.
  7. Select the “Manual proxy configuration” radio button.
  8. Enter the SOCKS proxy server IP address and port in the “SOCKS Host” and “Port” fields.
  9. If the proxy requires authentication, enter your credentials in the “Username” and “Password” fields.
  10. Click “OK” to save the settings.

Step 4: Configure SOCKS Proxy in Microsoft Edge:

  1. Open Microsoft Edge.
  2. Click on the three-dot menu icon in the top-right corner.
  3. Select “Settings.”
  4. Scroll down and click on “Privacy, search, and services” in the left sidebar.
  5. Scroll down and click on the “Choose what to clear” button under the “Clear browsing data” section.
  6. Click on the “Advanced settings” link.
  7. Toggle on the switch for “Always use a proxy server.”
  8. Enter the SOCKS proxy server IP address and port in the “Address” and “Port” fields.
  9. If the proxy requires authentication, click on the “Advanced” button and enter your credentials.
  10. Click “Save.”

Step 5: Test the Proxy:

After configuring the SOCKS proxy settings, you can test whether the proxy is working by visiting a website that displays your IP address. The displayed IP should match the proxy server’s IP.

Please note that the steps mentioned above are based on the browser versions available up to my last knowledge update in September 2021. Browser interfaces might have changed since then, so you might need to adapt the steps to the current version of your browser.
